Pulau Penyu Tanjung Benoa - Turtle Island
After people do water sports and have fun in Tanjung Benoa, they can go to Turtle Island. It's called Turtle Island or Turtle Island because it's a small island where baby turtles are raised. This island is a very small plain of raised land surrounded by swamps. It is in the Tanjung Benoa-Nusa Dua-Bali area.
If the sea is high, it takes this automatic boat about 15 minutes to get there. If the sea is low, it takes about 25 minutes. Serangan Island, which is also in Bali and is known for turtle breeding, can be reached by road.
From the plains of Tanjung Benoa, you need a motor-boat called a "glass bottom boat" to get here.
Turtles are almost extinct animals that are now protected by law. These animals don't grow up until they are 65 years old, and they can live as long as 200 years. The turtle population is on the edge of extinction because turtle meat tastes good and is often eaten and traded. As a result, the turtle population has dropped by a lot. There are still people who buy and sell turtles, even though they do it secretly and have been caught by the authorities.
Hawksbill turtles are listed as highly endangered to distinction, thus Gili Trawangan has done a fantastic job of protecting their nests. Green and hawksbill turtles are the two most prevalent turtle species in and around the Gili Islands. Before hatching, hawksbill eggs require 60 days of incubation.
The incubation and hatching of turtle eggs takes a lengthy period. If all goes according to plan, they will swim back to the ocean as soon as they hatch and may even find a way back from deep water. What this implies is that there shouldn't be any light, trash, holes, sand castles, or anything else that can mislead the hatchlings or obstruct their path to the sea.
Human activity is the primary factor endangering hawksbills. Despite being a protected species, turtles are nonetheless considered to be a delicacy in Indonesia and are caught for their flesh or decorative shell if they live to be juveniles or adults.
By constructing a metal structure that can subsequently be utilized as a Biorock, the interns of the Gili Eco Trust took urgent action to safeguard the nests from lizards, cats, and poachers. By doing this, we also hope to increase tourists' and residents' awareness of the importance of maintaining turtle-safe beaches.
